In the years following World War II, rank-and-file members of the International Longshoremen's Association became increasingly restive as a result of dissatisfaction with union contracts. Mr. Arnautoff, a longshoreman and artist, was active in Local 10, ILWU, in San Francisco, and opposed Bridges and a black militant faction just preceding and during the 1971 Longshoremen's strike. He collected ephemera on that period and from the earlier history of the union. Arnautoff illustrated Herb Mills' publication "The San Francisco Waterfront."
